Competition Round
Participants will submit a video link of their performance with their entry form for judges' review and selection of winners.

​Rules:

Participant must submit a $35 entry fee with the competition entry form. This fee helps cover the cost of the competition venue and judges we hire.

Participant's music selection must be approved by the conductor of their ensemble.

Competition is open to all members of any CYO ensemble.

Participant must enter the competition on the instrument which they play in a CYO ensemble. Piano is not allowed.

Participant is expected to play a single solo work. If the chosen work has multiple movements, the participant may only play one of the movements. Chosen work should reflect participant's current level of musicianship and the level of the ensemble in which they play.

All solo accompanied and unaccompanied repertoire is eligible. Etudes and orchestral studies are ineligible with exception of Caprices.

Video Rules:

Performance must be recorded in one take with no editing.

Video recording may be uploaded to YouTube or other video sharing sites, such as Google Drive or Vimeo. Make sure the privacy/visibility setting is set to Unlisted or Public and not Private. We cannot view videos with private settings.

Applicant's name and exact title of the audition piece must be included in the description of the video.

With attention to a few details, your video can be recorded successfully using readily available consumer electronics, such as iPhones or other smartphones. Here are some video tips to follow.

Consider lighting, framing, and camera placement. Film in a well-lit space with more lighting in front of you.

Place the camera at a medium distance so that you, your instrument, and your full range of motion are in the frame at all times. Use a tripod or flat surface for shooting the video.​

Your instrument and hands should be visible. If applicable, we should also be able to see both you and your pianist during the accompanied work.

Test the audio level to ensure there are no distortion during loud parts and soft parts can still be heard. An external microphone may be used, but is not required.

Dress appropriately as if you were performing in front of an audience.

Competition and Recital:
-
Competition is a single round by video submission. Multiple winners may be selected to perform at the recital.

Please make sure you are available to perform at the recital should you pass the competition round.

The same repertoire submitted in the Competition Round is performed in the Recital.

Participant must have an accompanist if their piece includes accompaniment.
-
It is not required, but highly recommended, to memorize the music.
