SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA

Audition Requirements:

All musicians: Bring to your audition a copy of your solo pieces so that our conductor may follow along. 

Prepare a 2 1/2 - 3 minute section for each of two contrasting pieces (ie. one showing virtuosity, the other slow melodic playing), from the standard solo repertoire for your instrument.  You may choose your own repertoire, in consultation with your private instructor or school music director, and it must be at the level of the following examples.  Please note that all auditions are to be unaccompanied.

 

Strings

Violin 

  • virtuosic - Bohm Sarabande in g minor, Bohm Intro and Polonaise, Rieding Concertino in G Major

  • slow, legato - Vivaldi Concerto in a minor 2nd mvt, Borowski Adoration

Viola

  • virtuosic - Hook Sonatina from B Barber Solos for Young Violists Vol. 1, Mozart-Piatigorsky Divertimento in C from B. Barber Vol. 2

  • slow, legato - Marcello Sonata in G Major slow mvt from Suzuki Bk. 5, Faure Sicilienne

Cello

  • virtuosic - Selections from Suzuki Bk. 4 or 5

  • slow, legato - same as above, selections from Suzuki Bk. 4 or 5

1.  The Scherzo section from "Prelude et Scherzo for Bassoon and Piano" by Paul Jeanjean
